Free early education places and eligibility

In Derbyshire all families are entitled to up to 570 hours of free early education from the term following your child's third birthday (up to 15 hours a week).

Some families are also entitled to up to 15 hours' free childcare a week for their two-year-old (opens in a new window)

If your child is two, or almost two you could qualify for free childcare worth hundreds of pounds.

You could get 15 hours a week of free childcare if your family:

  • has a household income of less than £16,190 a year or on certain benefits
  • receives Disability Living Allowance
  • has a current statement of special educational need (or an education, health and care plan) or
  • has left care through special guardianship an adoption placement or child arrangement order (residence order).
