Education, health and care plans

Most children and young people will have their needs met without an education, health and care (EHC) plan. They will be able to access lots of support and resources without the need for an EHC needs assessment.

Some children and young people with more complex needs may require extra help and resources. They may need an EHC needs assessment in order for us to decide whether it's necessary to make provision and consider an EHC plan.

You may have lots of questions about the EHC assessments and EHC plans, including:

  • What's an EHC plan?
  • How can my child get an EHC plan?
  • The process of applying for an EHC assessment or plan
  • What if my child already has a statement of special educational needs or learning difficulty assessment?
  • What if I disagree with the decision?
  • Is the EHC plan reviewed?
