Youlgrave Playschool

Youlgrave Pre-school operates from the Scout and Community Hall that is situated next to Youlgrave All Saints Primary School in Youlgrave, Derbyshire.

Our pre-school is provided by a voluntary management committee and serves the village and surrounding rural community. We currently have four members of staff, two are qualified to NVQ Level 3, one is working towards NVQ level 3, and one is qualified to level 2, we all hold a full and current paediatric first aid certificate.

Our pre-school is registered by Ofsted on the Early Years Register and may care for a maximum of 16 children over the age of two years.

We are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 12pm during term time only, (we follow the same term dates as Youlgrave Primary School).

All children are welcome and can join the Pre-school at two years of age. Children are usually eligible for government funding the term after their third birthday and this amounts to five, three hour sessions per week (15 hrs). We are also able to offer funding for two year old children who may be entitled.

We have four members of staff including the Supervisor: Jody Coupe Assistant Supervisor: Lily Smith and preschool assistant: Jayne Oldfield and apprentice Kerri Flower

Staff have expertise in using Makaton and a member of staff is Elkan trained which means that we have specialist training in supporting children with communication difficulties.

Every child is assigned a key worker who will work closely with you and your child, monitor your child's learning journey during their time with us and provide tailored and exciting opportunities for your child. We support all children and families by providing an inclusive and caring environment for everybody.

Our planning is fuelled by the children's interests which we incorporate with their individual next steps (or learning goals). Individual trackers are completed for all children which we use to inform our planning and next step targets.

We incorporate the seven areas of The Early Years Foundation Stage into all of our planning:

− Personal, Social & Emotional

− Communication & Language

− Physical

− Literacy

− Mathematics

− Expressive Arts & Design

− & Understanding the World

If you would like more information on the EYFS a member of Pre-school will be happy to help, alternatively you can access information on the website:

We support children to become active, inquisitive learners, providing them with exciting activities and opportunities to explore and learn. Staff are trained in the characteristics of effective teaching and have a strong awareness for the need for children to play and explore and to be active and motivated learners who think critically and choose their own unique way of doing things.

We are passionate in the fact that all children are unique and given the right positive relationships and enabling environments they can develop and learn.
