Children's Occupational Therapy Service - Chesterfield Royal Hospital Nhs Foundation Trust

A specialist service for children who experience physical or co-ordination difficulties which affect their ability to do activities of daily living, eg dressing, sitting or washing. The service is delivered through families, carers and/or other key workers who require specialist support or advice.

This may include identifying any adaptations to the child's environment or specialist health equipment and/or aids require to support a child to participate more fully in everyday activities.

This service is provided a variety of community settings across North Derbyshire, including:

- The Child Development Centre (The Den) at Chesterfield Royal Hospital

- Mainstream schools and nurseries

- Special school settings

- Families homes

Eligibility information


Children (aged 0-18yrs) who are registered with a North Derbyshire GP, and are normally living in North Derbyshire.

Referral route:

The Service accepts written referrals from GP's and other health professionals as long as the child's legal guardian has given permission/consent.

Transition Arrangements:

- Following discussion with parents/carers the Occupational Therapist will refer children to other support services as appropriate.

- Occupational Therapist will contribute to Transition planning coordinated by the child's school.

- The GP, parents and all key workers are informed in writing when support from the Occupational therapy service has ended.

- Sign post children/families to Adult services where these exist.
