The age range seen within the service is newborn to 16 years old.

Patients are then transitioned to adult services through the specialist pathway.

Eligibility information


Children (aged 0-16yrs) who are registered with a North Derbyshire GP, and are normally living in North Derbyshire.


Children's Hearing Services accepts referrals from GP's, Health Visitors, School Nurses and other referring Clinicians in agreement with the Parent or Guardian. We also accept referrals from the Newborn Hearing Screening Programme which the service has responsibility for.

The referral must be discussed with parents and a letter or referral form completed to include the reason for referral and history of symptoms.


Following discussion with the young person, parents or carers a joint appointment with the Paediatric and Adult Transition Leads takes place. The young person will be referred to other services where indicated.

Young person then as a contact in the Adult service and information regarding support moving forward. They will be supported by the Adult Hearing Service Transition Team until they are 18 years old.
