Transport for children with special education needs (5-16 years)

The authority can help with transport for children of primary age who live over two miles away, and over three miles for children of secondary school age, from the normal area (catchment) school.

Help can also be given for travel to a different school if it is still over the distance but closer to home than the normal area school. Distance is measured by the closest route you can walk to the school.

In certain cases help may also be provided for a pupil with a disability which prevents them walking to school with an adult.
Provided certain benefit entitlements are met, some secondary-aged children may also get help to one of the three nearest schools, between two and six miles.
You can have a look at all the information in the authority's transport policy at the Derbyshire County Council website.
