Information for Parents and Carers
The Early Years Special Educational Needs (EYSEN) Helpline offers information and advice about children between 0 and 5 years old who have, or may have, Special Educational Needs (SEN). It is for:
- parents of young children with SEN
- Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) practitioners
- health visitors
- paediatricians
- teachers
- children's centre workers
- speech and language therapists
- any other professionals working with a young child with SEN.
The earlier that a child's needs are identified, the earlier their needs can be met. This has been shown to improve long-term outcomes for children.
The EYSEN Service can support in a range of ways including:
- Advising on learning objectives and teaching strategies
- Advising on appropriate resources and effective environments
- Supporting families and signposting to other services
- Taking referrals for specialist intervention
- Advising on funding possibilities
- Offering training
