Information for Parents and Carers
The Early Years Special Educational Needs (EYSEN) Helpline offers information and advice about children between 0 and 5 years old who have, or may have, Special Educational Needs (SEN). It is for:
- parents of young children with SEN
- Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) practitioners
- health visitors
- paediatricians
- teachers
- children's centre workers
- speech and language therapists
- any other professionals working with a young child with SEN.
The earlier that a child's needs are identified, the earlier their needs can be met. This has been shown to improve long-term outcomes for children.
The EYSEN Helpline can offer advice and information on a range of topics including:
- Advice on understanding and supporting needs
- Advice on the graduated response to children’s needs
- Advice on appropriate resources
- General questions relating to the inclusion of individuals within settings - must be sent without child's name (see following paragraph)
- Enquiries around inclusion, support and provision
- Signposting to support and services available to early years settings and families
- Information about funding possibilities
- Information about training
